A brand new year

Welcome to our new-look newsletter! If you’ve been on our website recently, you’ll have noticed that our branding has changed. We’ve updated our image to reflect the three things that define our company: creative photography, classy design and a sense of fun.

If you’re ever bored at work, feel free to check out my new blog, where I’ll be waxing lyrical about everything from Patrick Swayze to what I shot last week. Comments welcome!

I hope the beginning of the year has been great for you and we look forward to continuing to satisfy all your photographic dreams in 2008.

Very best wishes,

Julia

JBP news
You tube logo

There are lots of exciting new developments on the JBP calendar. First will be our upcoming on-line magazine, which will introduce you to other members of the JBP community. We are also starting the JBP YouTube site, where you can watch behind-the-scenes footage of some of our shoots. Of course, there’s more, but we will reveal all in good time.

Everything we do is with the aim of improving the value of being a client of Julia Boggio Photography. Remember, a photographer isn’t just for Christmas and weddings…!

Press-wise, look out for Jane and James Bateman’s real-life Welsh wedding in Wedding magazine (Jan/Feb issue); see our tips on choosing a wedding photographer in Wedding Ideas (March issue); and learn what crazy thing I did with my wedding dress in You & Your Wedding (March/April issue).

Word on the street
David Fernando

It always warms the cockles of our hearts when we receive praise from our clients. Our recent favourite comes from commercial client David Fernando from The Best of Wimbledon & Merton and Kingston. His business partner and he came in for a Just In Case photo and here is what they said:

“Naturally, it was great fun doing the shoot itself – you really put us at ease…We’ve both had studio shots before for business purposes, but I can’t tell you how happy we both are with what you’ve achieved. Somehow you’ve managed to make two ageing 40-somethings look a) fairly professional and b) quite fetching – just the way we imagine we always look!”

You can visit our new commercial photography site here.

Celebrity photoshoot
Move over angelina

Have you ever seen a picture in Vanity Fair or Vogue and thought, “I’d like to do that”?

Well, now you can with JBP’s Celebrity-Style Portrait Session. All you need is an idea and an adventurous spirit. In a regular portrait session, the aim would be to shoot a large range of images, but a Celebrity-Style session is about getting the money shot – one amazing image you can print on canvas or acrylic and hang proudly above the fireplace.

A Celebrity-Style Portrait usually has a concept behind it; for example, shooting

Shia LaBoef in an astronaut outfit to accompany the headline “Landing in Hollywood” (Vanity Fair Aug07 ) . Photographically, the Session is defined by its filmic lighting style and the use of costume, location and make-up.

You can either bring an idea for a shoot to us or we’ll help you develop one. We’ll also source the location, make-up artist and props.

To learn more about Celebrity-Style Portrait sessions and read the story behind the shots above, visit the JBP blog.

Calling all budding photographers

Do you have a picture you’re particularly proud of? Perhaps something you snapped on honeymoon? Or a technical question about photography that you really want answered?

Well, send them in! We’re looking for contributions for the Client Photo and Clicking Questions sections of our new on-line magazine. You will get a credit next to your contribution and the warm glow of being in print (well, in cyberspace anyway).

We’ll also choose one lucky image to receive the full Photoshop treatment from our team of experts, just to show what a difference we make with our post-processing skills.

Grow your own just in case day
Grow your own blitz day

In our last newsletter, we told you about Just in Case (JIC) photos. To recap, it’s a professionally taken, retouched image that shows you at your absolute best. And it’s on your desktop, ready to go when you need it. Clients use theirs for presentations, PR, websites, sales materials, and even dating.

We hold a Blitz Day every other month at our studio in Wimbledon, where the

session fee is halved to £50. But now you can grow your very own Blitz Day!

If you have at least five people in your area who would like a JIC photo, then we will come to you. All we need is space to set up our lights and background. As an added bonus, the host of the Blitz Day will get his/her session for free.

Who done sung it? Competition

This issue’s competition is based around famous couples from musicals. To win, just tell us the name of the couple that sang the duet:

1. “Anything You Can Do”
2. “Wunderbar”
3. “Miracle of Miracles”
4. “A Little Priest”
5. “Sun and Moon”

A winner will be randomly selected from those who submit the correct answers. The prize is two complimentary tickets to Odeon cinemas.

Please email your answers by February 29, 2008.  Good luck!

Give the gift of photography for mothers day

If an album is part of your present, make that two months. If it’s too close to the date, then we also do Gift Certificates. And just so you have no excuses, here are the dates for the holidays up to June:

Holidays coming up!
St David’s Day: March 1
Mother’s Day: March 2
St Patrick’s Day: March 17
Easter: March 23
Queen’s Bday: April 21
Trooping the Colour: June 14
Father’s Day June 15

Wrap it wedding awards

We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to all the brides and grooms who voted for us for Photographer of the Year in the 2008 Wrap It Awards. Julia Boggio Photography was nominated as a regional finalist. The nominations are based on the strength of the testimonials given by clients, which is why we are so grateful for your support. Towards the end of the summer, we’ll contact everyone who is eligible to vote for us in the 2009 Wrap It Awards. Thanks again!
